I’m really hoping someone can point me in the right direction because I’m starting to get pretty worried about my 2017 Infiniti Q50. Over the past week or so, I’ve noticed this high-pitched whistling noise coming from the engine when I accelerate, especially under boost, and it’s definitely getting louder. I’ve read a lot about turbocharger issues on these VR30 engines, and apparently the wastegate actuators can fail or the turbos can develop shaft play over time, which is exactly what I’m afraid of. The car has around 85,000 km on it and I’ve always serviced it regularly, but I know these twin-turbo setups can be temperamental if they’re not looked after properly. I took it to a local garage and they told me it might be a boost leak, but honestly they didn’t seem very confident and I don’t want them messing around with something this complex. I’ve heard good things about Al Quoz Infiniti certified repair and that there are some shops there that actually specialize in these Japanese performance cars and understand the VR platform inside out. Has anyone here had turbo issues on their Q50 or Q60 and can tell me what the symptoms were and what the fix ended up being? I’m trying to decide whether to repair or just replace the turbos, but I need someone who can give me an honest assessment first.
