I am trying to improve the way I package smaller orders and have been researching Plastic mailers instead of using traditional boxes for everything. Most of the items I need to ship are lightweight, so I am interested in finding packaging that is easy to store, quick to use, and strong enough to survive normal handling.
One question I have is whether thicker Plastic mailers actually make a noticeable difference during shipping. Some products seem quite thin while others look much more durable. For people who have shipped orders regularly, which thickness has given you a good balance between protection and cost?

I am also curious about sizing. Is it better to keep several sizes available, or can one versatile size work for most lightweight products? I do not want excessive empty space inside the package, but I also do not want to maintain a huge packaging inventory.
Another concern is the adhesive closure. How securely do the self sealing strips hold during long distance shipping? Would you recommend adding additional tape for certain products?
